Freeport

Freeport is the largest and most well known of island towns in the Sanctuary Isles. It is "ruled" by a self-styled Pirate King, who calls himself the Red Right Hand.

Geography

Freeport is located approximately 200 miles south of the Silent Sea, along the Widow's Coast. The island is large and rocky, about 5 miles long and 2 across. Most of the island is barren and stormy, with a few small villages given over to perfunctory sheep farming and fishing. Much of the island is overrun by wild goats.

Freeport refers to both the Island of Freeport and the town of Freeport, no real distinction is made. Freeport itself is divided into three general areas.

Tradetown is the bustling port and surrounding area of marketplaces, taverns, and inns that generate revenue for Freeport.

Uptown belongs to the Red Right Hand and the rich and powerful of Freeport.

The Boneyard is the slum of Freeport. It is also the largest area in terms of both population and size.

History

Approximately 250 years ago, Freeport (then called Sanctuary) was part of the Freestates of Thyresh. During the Saltyrian Upheaval in 1315 FR, while blockaded by the the Caryadis navy, the city fell victim to a plague. The island was mostly abandoned (and considered cursed) for the better part of a century before becoming home to the Crimson Marauders, under the leadership of the Red Right Hand.
