Money And Items

Money

I choose not to worry about money. Though many nations use varied currency, forcing the players to learn multiple currency types, values, and exchange rates bores me. Everything comes in powers of 10. Money comes in the following forms:

  • Copper bit = about 10 cents
  • Silver penny = equivilant purchasing power to $1
  • Silver mark = about $10
  • Silver Sovereign = about $100
  • Gold crown = about $1000
  • Gold Dragon = you'll never see one

Note: If someone lists a price without a currency notation (e.g. 100), they usually mean silver pennies. Asking "Is that in pennies or marks?" is an almost sure way to spend 10 times the asking price. If someone says "silver" they usually mean an "mark". If someone says "gold" they always mean crown. People will always specify "Gold Dragon" if that's what they mean.

If something costs less than a single copper penny, you will usually just get more items. In poorer regions it's not unusual to see pennies cut into pieces and used to pay for fractional items.
