Remillard

The hereditary family of the Barony Remainne. Descended from the great warlord, Georges Remillard, who fought by the side of Lyros Kardiff and was granted the fiefdom of Remainne for his bravery. Saved Kardiff's life during the Battle of the River Inverness. Remainne originally stretched from the Lyros River to the Oralos River, along the southern coast of Kardia, to the base of the Titan's Wall. Since Georges's day, the Remillard Barons have increased the boundaries to both the East and West, causing some discord between themselves and the Eldwains and the Maranors.

The Remillards hold the government contract for minting, only those coins minted in Remainne are legal tender. Counterfeiting is a captial offense within Remainne, on par with treason. Currently, the Remillards are the most powerful noble family in Kardia, second only to the Lyrosians, the family to which the King belongs. The Remillards are quite conscious of their status in the kingdom, and most members of even the off-shoot branches are quite haughty and proud. They have a monopoly on mining in the mountains that make up the Titan's Wall, which contains ores of gold, copper, and iron. Silver has been found in the disputed land between Remainne and Eldweil, and emeralds have been found in in the disputed land between Remainne and Maranes.

The distaff line has always had two or three girls in a generation who possess the Gifted trait. They tend towards Motion magic, although several have had an affinity towards Illusion. This knowledge is completely suppressed as none of the women are allowed to join the Wizard's Guild, and the Remillards fear the taint of witchery. The Remillards have long been advisors to the Kings of Kardia and have made many enemies. The accusation of witchcraft and of harboring witches would damage their reputation permanently as well as draw them into a protracted legal battle diverting time and resources away from accruing wealth and amassing power. If the Remillards are found guilty of harboring witches, they could lose their Remainne, and possibly even be tried for treason.

Their family crest is a gold gryphon rampant on a sable field.

  • Notable family members:
    • Perryton Georges Markus Antonius Remillard-- the current Baron of Remainne. Widower. Described as cold, cunning, ruthless, and brilliant. Has not yet officially named an Heir, mostly to keep his family loyal and obediant. Is clandestinely supporting Lord Hobson's bid for power.
    • Rihanna Laurette Natolli Feymorran (nee Remillard)-- Perryton's second eldest daughter. Married to Guilder Feymorran. Secretly possesses motion magic. Caught Ali thieving from the Remillard townhouse in Kardia City and had her arrested.
    • Alara Natolli Therese Remillard Beyroux-- Youngest daughter to Therese Beyroux and Tobias Beyroux. At the age of four, her father and her brothers were tried and executed for treason. Though her parents marriage was legal, the Remillards have listed her as a bastard in their records and do not acknowledge her ties of kinship. Alara has nursed a grudge against the Remillards, particularly Perryton, for not aiding her mother after Tobias's death, and more recently, for having her thrown into Xartalca Prison.
    • Therese Charlotta Maureen Beyroux (nee Remillard)-- Deceased. A Lady. Given to Tobias as his bride in a deal struck by Remillards. Blackmailed Perryton into saving herself and Alara when Tobias and their sons were tried and executed for treason. Lived the next six years in extreme poverty, and eventually died of typhoid fever. Ali's Trio of Guardsmen were Therese's sworn bondsmen; it is thought that she and Araliss were deeply in love, but never consummated their relationship, even after she was widowed.
    • Myraille Revant Remillard-- A powerful Remillard Countess who ruled over the County Revant several generations ago. She died under highly suspicious circumstances.
    • Lywin Neil Fouchard Revanne--Parryton's brother by marriage (though the Revanne line is, of course, descended from the Remillards) and the Earl of Revanne, the Estate that encompasses Remainne's famous gold mines.
