	WPI Technical Theatre Handbook: Specials
	Specials Many times it is desirable to accentuate certain portions of the stage with light. This can have a very dramatic effect, but also can be used very subtly. A dramatic use of a special would be having a single instrument light an actor. A more subtle use of a special would be to highlight an actor during an important speech without reducing the existing lighting. Ellipsoidal instruments are usually used for specials, due to their focusing and shuttering capabilities.
