Magic Notes

Magic casting should almost ALWAYS fatigue the caster in some way.

Magic casting should take time AND/OR cause EXTREME fatigue.

Magic occurs in two distinct and separate phases. Magic energy must be GATHERED and it must be SHAPED. Failure to gather enough power for a spell will result in either nothing happening or a significantly weakened version of the intended effect. Failure to shape the power correctly can result in catastrophic botches and unintended effects.

Everyone has a pool of energy for casting spells. Some may have more than others, but the pool is very limited. To cast more powerful spells, energy must be gathered from outside the mage. Certain places may make this easier or harder.

Magic gathered by calling on POWERS? "I call upon the power of wind, I call upon the spirits of the deep, etc.)

Affinities should exist for gathering and shaping spells of certain types. Affinity by POWER? Affinities should be exclusive and in some cases opposing. (Affinity with Fire makes Water harder to cast)

Minor magics (cantrip type) can be duplicated by a skilled charlatan. Should not fatigue the caster. Can not cause damage, but might be useful distrationary tactics?

All magic requires concentration. Casting a spell in combat is not easy. Always have a shield grog. Need some way to allow defense while casting. Gandalf.

Magic may be banked in talismans?

Shadowrun type Drain/ Fatigue?
