About :: Benj Lipchak :: Part I
I was born in Boston, MA on June 6, 1975. It snowed in Boston that day. I have
an older sister, Maggie, and a younger brother, Paul. My dad is an engineer at
Raytheon, and he's been working there since his co-op while a student at MIT.
My mom has been many things, including carpenter and COTA.
I grew up in South Natick, MA. I lived there until I was nine. Then we moved to
Sterling, MA so my mom could keep horses again. I went to Wachusett Regional
High School in Holden, MA. But I spent my senior year at the Mass Academy of
Math and Science on the WPI campus in Worcester. I then continued to pursue
my BS and MS degrees at WPI. When I wasn't studying, I was doing theatre.
After getting my BS in Computer Science and Technical Writing with the class of
'95, I was recruited into the Alpha Workstation Graphics group at DEC. I worked
at DEC until Compaq bought them, at which point I quit and became a contractor
for Compaq. I was writing X11/OpenGL graphics drivers and managing projects.
