Component Type Notes
Frame Gary Fisher Sugar 3 Disc Stock
Fork Marzocchi Bomber Z3 80mm air/oil Stock
Headset Cane Creek AheadSet Stock
Handlebar Bontrager Crowbar Race 9 degree riser Stock
Stem Bontrager Stock
Grips Race Face Good 'n Evil Upgrade from stock Bontrager near purchase; wanted fatter grips. These are pretty good for my hands.
Rear Shock Cane Creek Cloud 9 air shock Upgrade from stock Cane Creek AD-5 at purchase; was done by shop. Adjustability on the fly was nice for initial setup, but I don't tweak it much these days.
Front Brake Hayes Hydraulic Disc, 6" Rotor Stock
Rear Brake Hayes Hydraulic Disc, 6" Rotor Stock
Crankset Shimano Deore LX 2002 Upgrade from stock Bontrager at purchase. Head about too many chain suck problems; had LBS swap it out before I took bike home. 22T and 32T rings replaced with Truvativ (September 2003). Big ring replaced with Truvativ Rockguard (September 2003). No more scars, no more hanging up going over big logs or rocks... No more keeping up with people on pavement or rail trail.
Bottom Bracket Shimano Upgrade from stock at purchase. Had to be changed to accomodate new LX crankset.
Front Derailleur Shimano Deore LX 2001 Stock. Now tweaked to only shift small and middle rings since I have the Rockguard on there.
Rear Derailleur Shimano Deore XT 2001 Stock
Shifters Shimano Deore XT 2001 RapidFire Stock
Cassette SRAM 7.0 32t Replaced in May 2003 due to original 32t bending, and sprocket wear. Stayed with stock brand/model as 9.0 seemed too flimsy and costly.
Chain SRAM PC-99 Replaced and upgraded from PC-59 in May 2003. Snapped stock PC-59 twice. Maybe PC-99 is made better? Stuck with SRAM because I really like the quick link. I've been keeping this chain lubed with Pedro's Ice Wax since putting it on. So far I like it, but it needs re-application more frequently.. I think my chain is cleaner, though.
Hubs Bontrager Disc Stock
Wheels Bontrager Race Disc Stock
Skewers Bontrager Stock
Tires Hutchinson Alligators 2.0 Upgraded from WTB Velociraptor(F) and IRC Back Country(R) in May 2003. The Gators are really grippy on wet stuff, but the sidewalls get torn up easily.
Seat Post Unknown Not stock; Upgraded when purchased. Clamp bolt broke once and was replaced in June 2003
Saddle San Marco Not stock; Upgraded when purchased.
Chainstay Protector Home Brew Made from spiral cable wrap and black electrical tape.
Derailleur Cables Avid Flak Jacket Upgraded September 2003. These look really promising. Sealed between cable stops, really nice ferrules, etc.
