This was the sign that signalled we were back at our hotel on Landstrasse Hauptstrasse. It was the name of the restaurant next door (which also served us breakfast each morning). Despite the fact that WienerWald very respectably translates as Vienna woods or forest, you know that every day our brains read it as: Wiener World! Viewed: 183 times.

Inside modern-day Cafe Pruckel. A local Viennese resident directed us to this place for our first European meal (when we were jet-lagged and about to fall over). She told us: "Everyone eats there." I had the best Wiener Schnitzel ever. Oddly, a tuxedo-ed waiter gave us a tablecloth because we ordered dinner and not just coffee. Viewed: 182 times.

Much later we discovered that Cafe Pruckel is a very well-known coffeehouse in Vienna and was even mentioned in our guidebook. This is a picture of the inside taken in about 1910. It was a more 1950s interior when we were there, but the high ceilings are still there. Viewed: 174 times.
