Here are some topics to discuss with a potential roommate.

Noise

• keep the TV on all the time? play loud music?
• what hours are quiet time? what about weekends?
• own anything loud? motorcycle? dog? table saw?

Cleanliness

• how big are you on doing dishes?
• what's OK in the kitchen? bathroom? other common areas? private areas?
• what's acceptable for pets?

Finances

• How are the bills arranged?
• Common food, separate food, or a mix?
• What if one person needs to move out early?

Guests

• partner visiting often? overnight guests?
• friends over a lot? family visit much? any kids who visit? pets?
• what about long term guests?
• throw large parties? willing to coordinate them in advance?
• how soon is the house back in order after a party, if ever?
• how big are you on security?

Substances

• smoke? inside or out?
• alcohol? get drunk much? get sick much from it?

• is there food you can't or won't have in the house?
