Heterosexual Privilege
As a heterosexual...
- You can marry legally, with the benefits it offers.
- You can hold hands with a partner in public without getting harrassed.
- You can mention your partner at work, or have a picture of your partner on your desk, and not have people freak out.
- You can bring your partner to a company party, or a prom, or a family gathering, without people throwing a fit, or without it being considered a revolution or a militant act.
- People won't say you are unfit as a parent solely because of your sexual orientation.
- You have models of relationships readily available to you to examine, in real life and via the mass media.
- Doctors and psychiatrists don't tell you that your desires are sick, and you need to be cured.
