50 Reasons People Don't Leave Their Abusive Lovers

Shouldn't any person with an abusive lover leave them right away? This list brings up some of the reasons why it is often not that simple. Whether or not someone can or can't, should or shouldn't leave is a totally individual matter. Someone who is abused may be considering:

The children
Money
Fear
Relatives blame me
Therapist blames me
Police blame me
Clergy blame me
My batterer blames me
I blame myself
No one believes I'm being abused
I'm not sure I'm being abused
My partner says "I love you"
My partner says "I'm sorry"
My partner says "I'm the best thing that's ever happened to you"

My partner says "I'll take the children"

The shelters are full
I believe the welfare system will abuse me worse

My partner is addicted to drugs
