Stevey was obviously frightened.  Devan picked him up and put him back in
his cage, and the woman stopped screaming.  Hmm.  He picked Stevey back up,
and sure enough, Melissa screamed again.  "What an odd alarm system," he
thought, as he gave Stevey a final pat.

"So, Melissa, who are you?" he asked.
"Fine now that you've put that evil creature away," she replied, and he
stood confused for a moment.
"No, I meant =who= are you.  I don't know you.  Do I?"  Suddenly he was
unsure of whether he did or not.  She did seem familiar, somehow...  And he
had indeed known her name was Melissa, and she hadn't objected to his using
it.  Her expression changed from relief to consternation, as she said...
